Our Vision

“Home is Where Everyone Belongs” is L’Arche Calgary’s vision to rebuild three of our oldest homes and create accessible, sustainable spaces for future generations.

For more than 50 years, our homes have been places of friendship, belonging, and lifelong support. Today, many of those homes are aging and no longer meet the needs of the people who live in them. Through this project, we will replace three aging residences with purpose-built homes designed for dignity, accessibility, and connection.

By rebuilding one home at a time, we can ensure that no Core Member is displaced during construction. This phased approach allows us to continue providing stable, supportive homes while creating spaces that will serve our community for decades to come.

Affordability

Each new home will continue to provide a permanent, accessible home for Core Members while also including two one-bedroom suites. These additional suites will create affordable housing opportunities and expand our Supported Independent Living Program (SILP), allowing more people to access the support they need while living as independently as possible.

Accessibility

Our new homes will be fully accessible and thoughtfully designed to support aging in place. From barrier-free layouts to accessible bedrooms and bathrooms, every detail will help ensure that Core Members can continue to live safely, comfortably, and with dignity.

Capacity

By maximizing the use of our existing lots, we can create more living space and increase our ability to support people with diverse needs. These homes will strengthen L’Arche Calgary’s capacity to serve our community today and into the future.

Three Future Homes

Like any home, decades of wear and tear have taken their toll. Our three oldest homes are now more than 60 years old and have undergone no major improvements in over two decades. For the people who live in them, these are not temporary residences, they are home.

As our Core Members age, accessibility challenges have become increasingly significant. After exploring many possibilities, we determined that rebuilding is the most responsible, sustainable, and cost-effective path forward. These new homes will allow our members to remain in the communities they know and love while receiving the support they need for years to come.

Project Highlights:

  • Three clustered homes in southwest Calgary
  • Purpose-built, fully accessible residences
  • Expanded capacity for diverse support needs and SILP participants
  • Affordable housing integrated into each home
  • Sustainable, energy-efficient design
  • Development plans complete and ready to move forward
  • Building partnerships and securing funding for future phases
  • First phase anticipated to begin in the summer of 2026
