L’Arche Calgary Receives City of Calgary Grant

We are thrilled to share that L’Arche Calgary’s Homes in Harmony Project has been selected to receive funding from the City of Calgary’s Home Program!

Thanks to this generous grant, we can expand and strengthen training in our homes, ensuring our Core Members and Assistants have the tools and support they need to live in stable, harmonious environments.

This funding allows us to be proactive in training around de-escalation and support techniques, helping promote long-term housing stability and successful tenancies.

A huge thank you to the City of Calgary for recognizing the importance of inclusive, person-centered housing!

“Non-profit housing organizations don’t just connect Calgarians with a roof over their heads; they provide dignity and stability. Council’s continued investment in the Home Program demonstrates our steadfast dedication to ensuring safe and stable housing for all. This funding will help to create positive impacts for Calgarians in need of housing stability,” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek.

The Home Program aligns with Home is Here: The City of Calgary’s Housing Strategy, which was approved by Council in 2023.

“One of the key objectives of the Housing Strategy is to support affordable housing partners like these” said Reid Hendry, Chief Housing Officer. “These kinds of projects play a key role in equipping Calgarians with the tools they need to ensure long-term housing stability.”

In alignment with Outcome 5 of the Strategy, this year, the Program piloted a new Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing) approach to the application process that integrates Indigenous oral storytelling and guidance from Elders into the review process.

“Another key goal of the Housing Strategy is to reduce barriers for Indigenous people who experience unique challenges in accessing affordable housing,” said Hendry. “Integrating the oral presentation pathway into the review process really helped to improve access to the Program in a culturally conscious way.”
