Our Board Members

Maureen Lynne Ross President

Maureen Lynne Ross joined the L’Arche Calgary Board in May 2019. She grew up in Edmonton and received her B.PE and B. Ed at the University of Alberta and her M.Ed from the University of Calgary. She worked with Special Olympics Alberta and Special Olympics Canada coordinating programs and teaching Coaching courses.  Maureen taught K-12 for 10 years and worked at St. Michael Catholic Community for 12 years as the Sacrament Preparation Coordinator. She has been married to Tom for 27 years and has three children (Emma, Liam and Samuel).  She loves to surf the Internet, read, drink coffee, work out, talk to people, travel, and play with dogs.

Leonard Ernest Perry Vice-President

Leonard Ernest Perry joined the Board of L’Arche Calgary in November 2021.  He is a leadership consultant with 35 years of experience in the broadcast and digital media industry. As a Regional Vice-President for Bell Media, he was responsible for the operations at CTV Calgary, CTV Edmonton, and CTV 2 Alberta. Len held news leadership positions with CBC, Calgary7 (Global) and CTV. In addition to his Broadcast Journalism credentials from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Len has studied at Queen’s School of Business and Mount Royal University. Len is married and has four daughters and an ever-growing team of grandchildren. He is a creative cook and an enthusiastic fly fisher with an affinity for the backcountry in Alberta and B.C.

Frank Walsh Director

Frank Walsh joined the Board of L’Arche Calgary in September 2015. He is an engineer and also holds an MBA from Queens. Since retirement from the Petroleum industry in 2013 he has been active with various charities (L’Arche Camp Cadicasu, Springbank Park for All Seasons, St. Vincent de Paul and Childrens Wish). Frank has also served on the Board of several public and private companies.

Arthur Brian Oliphant Director

Brian Oliphant joined the L’Arche Calgary Board in December 2018. He is a native Calgarian and attended Queen Elizabeth High School. He also attended the University of Calgary (BSc) and Dalhousie University in Halifax (LLB). He practiced law in Calgary for 32 years and retired in 2013. Brian is married to Vicki, and they have three adult daughters. Brian enjoys various activities including hiking, cycling, playing hockey, and singing.

Brian Grassby Treasurer

Brian Grassby is a retired finance executive with over 40 years of experience in a variety of industries and companies. Brian has also had extensive board of director experience for both profit and not-for-profit organizations.

He was born and raised in Montreal and moved with his family to Calgary in 2001. He went to Loyola High School in Montreal, which was run by the Jesuits, then graduated in Management from McGill University followed by becoming a Chartered Accountant. Brian met his future wife, Joanna Bennett, at a camp for disabled children in the Quebec Eastern Townships. Brian and Joanna have 3 children, two sons and one daughter. In retirement, Brian enjoys traveling, hiking, hockey and golf as well as spending summers in Maine by the ocean.

Joyce Wai-Yin Li Director

Joyce Wai-Yin Li joined the L’Arche Board in February 2024. She is born and raised in Calgary and is proud to call this city home. As a research analyst, she is passionate about evidence-informed health policy and patient engagement/advocacy. In addition to sitting on various charitable boards that empower vulnerable populations, she also finds fulfillment volunteering in her local community, exploring different corners of the world, and baking in her kitchen. Joyce can often be found cozied up with a good book alongside her dog Lucas with a comforting cup of hot coffee.

Suzy Moutinho Director

Suzy Moutinho joined the L’Arche Board in June 2020. She is a senior management professional whose career spans the railroad, telecommunications, and energy industries, primarily in transformational roles in both operations and human resources/labor relations.  She holds two bachelor’s degrees in economics and industrial Relations and an MBA from Queen’s University.  Suzy is the past Chair of the Board of Youth Central Society and is also trained and experienced as a grief support facilitator with the Alberta Health Services Grief Support Program.  Suzy currently works at a FinTech joint venture in Calgary.  Suzy was awarded one of Canada’s Top 25 HR Professionals in 2017 and the CPHR Award in HR Excellence in 2019.

Linda Ann McLean Director

Linda McLean currently serves as Executive Director with Canadian Mental Health Association Calgary Region. She has an extensive background in the non-profit sector and has held executive leadership positions with a range of organizations in Alberta and B.C. including, The Calgary Drop In Centre, Inn from the Cold, Our Place Society, and The Brenda Strafford Foundation. While she is passionate about community mental health care and social justice, her journey started as an academic and researcher studying and practicing as an Anthropologist. She had the great fortune to work and live in several Indigenous communities across northern Canada and later to deliver some of UofC’s first outreach education programs at Sisika Nation. This early work in education and social equity led her to focus on applied research and service in the fields of mental health and addiction, housing and homelessness, and gender-based violence, which forever changed her career path, and she has been involved in seeking innovative solutions to challenging social issues ever since. Linda holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Social Anthropology and Education.

In her spare time, she loves to cook, practice Yoga, and garden. She is also an animal lover and it turns out that she has never met a rescue dog or cat that she could leave behind, so her home is filled with many furry friends

Rob Smith Director

Rob Smith joined the Board of L’Arche Calgary in April 2025. Born and raised in Calgary, Rob chose not to venture far from home when studying Civil Engineering at SAIT, and he is proud to continue calling Calgary home. He currently works in Commercial Real Estate as a Director within the Development Advisory division of an international firm. He is proud to contribute to major real estate projects across Western Canada and the Territories. He and his wife are raising two young boys, and he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and giving back to his community.
